New research on the Tablet market demonstrates what everyone already knew: the growth here is astronomical. According to data published by IDC, the third quarter of 2014 represented an 11.5% increase in device sales worldwide. But the novelty of the time is that little by little, Android is gaining space and occupying the slice of iOS.
Between July and September 2014, there were 54 million units sold worldwide. Apple remained the primary name, with its different iPad models, selling 12.3 million devices and occupying a 22.8% slice of the market. The number, however, shows a 13% drop in this segment, with 1.8 million fewer devices.
Instead, here are the low-cost tablets that have the Android operating system running. Especially in emerging markets, small brands and devices that cost less than € 100 have been the highlights, robbing the market of larger slices to the same extent that guarantee the inclusion of many new customers in this segment.
Here, however, the movement is the same seen in the world of smartphones. Meanwhile, as smaller value tablets come out more frequently, they still receive less attention from companies that generate little income, due to the low profit margin. On the other hand, this category is already beginning to be seen as a good gateway for customers who, before, had no tablet and can, in the future, from top-of-the-line solutions because they like technology and they want to do more with her.
In addition, as TechRadar mentioned, the expansion of Microsoft's approach in Windows 8.1 and its tablet segment can also annoy Apple Macbook Pro. The distance between the two companies is still huge, but the manufacturer of one of the main PC operating systems works precisely with that title to promote convergence between computers and mobile technologies, focusing mainly on the corporate market.
Clear evidence of this type of movement is the Asus, which according to IDC data, is the world's largest seller of tablets, behind only Apple and Samsung. The company achieved this number largely by the sales of convertible laptops, whose touch screen can be used both in conventional mode with the keyboard, in the form of tablets.
According to analysts, the situation remains worrying that Apple Macbook Pro has to start moving, but it already needs attention. Now, however, the company seems to be acting to encompass more and more consumers. During the announcement of the new iPads Air and Mini, for example, the company also revealed a drop in prices for current versions.
